A rather interesting style of MUD that heavily emphasized PvP (Player VS Player) combat, with an extremely sophisticated and subsequently very complex combat system. It also had a very different area system, with a large world that relied more heavily on maps (which could be generated into colorful ones using the dedicated graphical MUSHclient), and was dependent on a coordinate system.

The source may have never been released, were it not for a strange turn of events. According to the admin KaVir himself (Richard Woolcock), the code for GodWars (and SMAUG) was at some point stolen and released.

KaVir further stated that [the theft] forced the original coders (including himself) to release the code officially because “the authors wanted to at least have some control over the distributions”.
Many, many variants were eventually created, including a direct "sequel" by the original author himself, referred to as God Wars II.
